UNC Greensboro’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusive Excellence Action Framework and Roadmap guides campus efforts to address racial inequality and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion for all individuals and groups that are marginalized.

The roadmap directs us to engage the individual, interpersonal, and institutional levers of systemic inequality and pursue data-driven management of best practices and policies to sustain access, opportunity, and inclusive excellence.

Action Framework path to inclusive excellence.

Assessment, Evaluation, & Strategic Planning

Assessment, evaluation, and strategic planning help us understand the sources and outcomes of systemic inequality, establish priorities for strategic action to promote equity and excellence, and identify appropriate metrics and accountability measures to achieve and sustain systemic change.

Organizational Practices

Organizational processes are levers of access, opportunity, and resource allocation. Inclusive, just, and equitable processes are promoted by intentional policies, management of best practices, and data-driven results to sustain desired outcomes.

Attitudes, Behavior, & Intergroup Process

Attitudes, behavior, and intergroup processes affect inclusive climate with a shared sense of belonging, safety, and value regardless of social identity and group membership. Microaggressions, harassment and bullying, and abuse of power are tools of racism, bias, and marginalization that preclude an inclusive climate.

Training, Education, & Programming

Training, education, and programming promote engagement and self-awareness, knowledge growth and learning, and workforce development. Racism/bias, intergroup dialogue, and professional skills are targeted to address behavioral, cultural, and systemic factors that activate bias and inequitable practices.

Why an Action Framework and Roadmap?

All diversity work, like politics, is local.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts on our campus are among the most decentralized in the UNC System (Conduent Report, 2018). A shared framework empowers local leadership and strategic action but also coheres campus efforts and supports a common direction.
