Profile Definitions
- Pre-Engagement
There is a purposive engagement of equity, diversity, and inclusion (needs, challenges, values, or priorities), and such efforts are not framed as integral to the goals, mission, or vision of the unit or university and, thus, are not an organizational priority. - Emergent
Equity, diversity, and inclusion are acknowledged as integral to the organizational mission, vision, and goals. Efforts to understand the challenges, needs, and how to address them are in development or are preliminary. There is a “planning to plan” about aligning to core values and expectations and articulating baseline priorities. Informational resources, training, and consultation to inform and build forward are explicit priorities, as are discovery assessment strategies.
- Building
Equity, diversity, and inclusion are acknowledged as integral to the institutional mission, vision, and goals, and there is a commitment to act on associated practices and policies that support strategic priorities. Based on organizational assessments and stakeholder engagement, actions are planned and initiated to address targeted outcomes, and there is a dedicated mechanism to advance efforts. As needed, adequate resources are allocated to support planning and implementation with expanding investment. Strategic priorities are crystalizing, and associated goals, metrics, and programmatic efforts have been planned, implemented, and evaluated.
- Sustaining
Equity, diversity, and inclusion are integrated into the organization’s internal and external narratives and are integral to strategic planning and established priorities—demonstrating high institutional commitment in service of its mission. Goals, metrics, and outcomes are defined/articulated, as is an ongoing process of assessment/evaluation. Multiple domains are engaged, as are policy, procedures, and other organizational operations in support of institutional mission. Dedicated resources are in place to sustain efforts, and equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts are folded into core structures, policies, and institutional practices to build and sustain embedded inclusive excellence.
